Release notes for Current Channel

These release notes provide information about new features and non-security updates that are included in Current Channel updates for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Microsoft 365 Apps for business, and the subscription versions of the desktop apps for Project and Visio.

Note

  • We often roll out features to Current Channel over a period of time. This allows us to ensure that things are working smoothly before releasing the feature to a wider audience. If you don't see something described, you'll get it eventually.

  • We fixed an issue where some users couldn't see checkboxes getting rendered after inserting them.

  • We fixed an issue where the accessibility mail tip kept appearing and disappearing, causing the content to jump when composing an email.

  • We fixed an issue where Do Not Forward (DNF) was left on message when applying and removing label.

  • We fixed an issue that caused users with a large number of folders expanded during synchronization to experience a non-delivery receipts (NDRs) with the failure MAPI_E__TOO_BIG (0x80040305).”

  • We fixed an issue where a meeting request received by an Exchange account would appear with a blank body in Outlook Desktop cached mode.

  • We fixed an issue where adding an Outlook or a Hotmail account to a mail profile nullified a policy preventing copying messages between exchange stores.

  • We fixed an issue in Outlook where mail from a profile activated and directed to a different portal was being redirected to https://portal.microsoft.com.

  • We resolved an offline address book (OAB) download issue by adding a registry key to give the BITS jobs for automatic (non-manual) OAB downloads the same priority as the BITS jobs for manual (user-initiated) OAB downloads.

  • We fixed an issue where opening an .ICS attachment from a email shows security prompt.

  • We fixed an issue where content marking wasn't working for HTML messages when SMIME was enabled.

  • Resolved an issue in Outlook where content may not be visible in the email body unless using Forward or Reply.

PowerPoint

  • We resolved a graphics-related issue that caused the app to close unexpectedly at times.

  • We fixed an issue where high-DPI images became blurry after an Office document was saved as PDF.

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where saves to a OneDrive sync location would sometimes fail unexpectedly for users subject to a mandatory sensitivity labeling policy.

  • We resolved an issue where an error prompt appeared when initiating screen recording.

Project

  • We fixed an issue affecting the calculation of the Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) when the Actual costs are always calculated by Project option is turned off.

Visio

  • We fixed an issue where PowerPoint stopped responding when a Visio object was activated and the mouse was moved over the stencil list.

  • We resolved a graphics-related issue that caused the app to close unexpectedly at times.

Word

  • We fixed an issue where the app can display multiple permission dialogs when opening a file with sensitivity label.

  • We fixed an issue where user was unable to create a folder in SharePoint and an error message appeared when trying to create a new folder in SharePoint root site.

  • We fixed an issue where the Title bar no longer showed a "Saved" status for locally-saved files.

  • Fixed an issue in Word where images would move when moused over.

  • Resolved an issue where Track Changes did not accept a change involving a checkbox.

  • Made changes to prevent users from receiving the error "Sorry, something went wrong. Try again in a few moments." when using "Draft with Copilot" in certain cases.

  • Resolved an issue in Outlook where content may not be visible in the email body unless using Forward or Reply.

  • Resolved an issue where placeholders in an equation would show when printing or exporting to PDF.

  • Resolved an issue where items in the Table of Contents may be missing numbering.

  • We resolved a graphics-related issue that caused the app to close unexpectedly at times.

Office Suite

  • In certain cases where the document must be opened as read-only, PowerPoint may not properly indicate the read-only state to the user until a save is attempted.

  • We fixed an issue where users experienced slowness when an Excel file contained many combo box form controls.

  • We fixed an issue where users couldn't export a protected file to PDF if the sensitivity label applied to the file disables the EDITRIGHTSDATA usage right.

  • We resolved an issue which was prompted when trying to perform office setup.

  • We fixed an issue where the ink to text pen was not working properly.

  • We fixed an issue where a label applied to a newly created file or label changed in an existing file which had any other label applied wasn't updating in the overflow menu in Excel, PowerPoint and Word apps.

  • We fixed a localization issue where Japanese characters were displayed with non-Japanese font, Malgun Gothic or Microsoft JhengHei.

Excel

  • We fixed an issue where the ToolTips of pivot tables connected to OLAP cube aren't displayed.

  • We fixed an issue where Excel may close unexpectedly when a Drill Down worksheet is moved to a new workbook.

  • We fixed an issue where the Drop-down list menu options in Excel cells become unclickable after opening a User Form that uses a WebBrowser object.

  • We fixed an issue where the user would experience changes in column widths unexpectedly when using PivotTables.

  • We fixed issues users could encounter applying conditional formatting via the Top10 Interop object in Add-in, which included requiring a restart and potential data loss.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that made it possible for a legacy WebView ItemSend add-in to bypass condition checks when switching items.

  • We fixed an issue where the app closed unexpectedly when a cache file contained corrupted data.

PowerPoint

  • The Title field in File > Info will no longer be filled in automatically when saving a file.

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where the digital signature of the VBA project wasn't being persisted after applying or changing sensitivity labels.

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where a document saved to a OneDrive sync location intermittently stopped working for users subject to a mandatory sensitivity labeling policy.

Visio

  • We fixed an issue where Visio would become unresponsive when editing a Visio document embedded in a PowerPoint presentation.

  • We fixed an issue where Visio would stop responding if it was opened in a remote desktop session, and then the remote desktop session was closed and reopened.

Word

  • Resolved an issue that prevented a file from opening for some documents.

  • Resolved an issue where Document Mode would switch from "editing" to "viewing" if user enabled "Track Changes" and set "For Everyone".

  • Resolved an issue where an email wouldn't fully render in the preview pane.

  • Resolved an issue where watermarks in a document weren't being printed.

  • Resolved an issue where "Restricted Editing" may not prevent editing after uploading a document to SharePoint and reopening.

  • Resolved an issue when modifying styles that the "Style based on" entry would be blank.

Office Suite

  • This fix preserves compatibility with certain rare proofing tool installation scenarios.

  • Office 2016 proofing tools are offered for download via standalone per-language installers. Even if they may appear to function correctly, however, using these Office 2016 proofing tools together with later versions of Office is not supported.This fix prevents a crash in Word, Outlook, OneNote and PowerPoint caused by this unsupported installation scenario. Users are recommended to uninstall the Office 2016 proofing tools if they are using a later version of Office and to install the appropriate Office language packs instead. Office language packs update automatically along with the version of Office they are paired with.

  • Removed option to display Track Changes balloons in left margin: The advanced Track Changes option to set the margin for balloons to left has been removed.

  • Removed preference to open files in Reading View: The option "Open email attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" has been removed. The experience now defaults to "Viewing Mode".

  • Blog post functionality removed: The blogging feature has been removed, and the Blog Post tab in the ribbon is no longer accessible.

Office Suite

  • Use sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 apps when connected experiences are disabled: Your organization can now disable connected experiences for privacy concerns without impacting data security policies, such as sensitivity labels. Services associated with Microsoft Purview (e.g. sensitivity labels, rights management, ...) are no longer controlled by policy settings to manage privacy controls for Microsoft 365 Apps. Instead, these services will rely on their existing security admin controls in Purview portals.

  • Open locked records as read-only: Files with retention labels marking them as locked records will now open as read-only to prevent user edits.

  • We fixed an issue where the worksheet might not be displayed correctly when changing Window.Zoom through VBA.

  • We fixed an issue where users reported AutoSave wasn’t working on new workbooks.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that caused default SMIME labels to fail to apply when a user replies to or forwards an unlabeled message.

  • We fixed an issue that caused the buttons on the Reminders dialog to be truncated with some fonts.

  • We fixed an issue that caused users to be unable to send mails while the dlpwaitonsendtimeout registry key was set.

PowerPoint

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where the digital signature of the VBA project was not being persisted after applying or changing sensitivity labels.

Visio

  • Text strikethrough now visible in view mode in Visio 2016 after resolving an issue.

  • Search for shapes and stencils saved on the local device is now available after resolving an issue.

Word

  • We fixed an issue where a document displayed as saved instead of working offline.

  • Resolved an issue where the ruler wouldn't show unit numbers or indents in RTL layout.

  • Resolved an issue where preferences deployed with the Office Deployment Tool were not being set correctly.

  • Japanese default character and paragraph properties reverted back to default font size of 10.5pt., default paragraph Space After to 0, and the line spacing to Single.

Office Suite

  • We fixed an issue where the application displayed empty or incorrect contents during scrolling or switching sheets in right-to-left (RTL) Excel.

  • We fixed an issue where the application wouldn't render shapes while switching sheets in Excel.

  • Resolved a performance issue in PowerPoint when typing with autocorrect.

  • We fixed an issue with Linked Tables. When a user tried to close an existing linked table with a Dynamics 365 data source the following error displayed, "This action will reset the current code in break mode".

Excel

  • We fixed an issue where the ChartArea.ClearContents method might unexpectedly stop working.

  • We fixed an issue where linked pictures were not updating.

  • We fixed an issue where coauthoring on text boxes could yield unexpected results.

  • We fixed an issue for PivotTables in which custom styles were not being applied correctly when the option to insert a blank row after each item was selected.

  • We fixed an issue where linked pictures were not updating.

  • We fixed an issue where formatting the border color resulted in an incorrect color.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that caused users to be unable to see the categories they applied to an email until after they closed the email window.

  • We fixed an issue that caused Copilot drafts to display incorrectly with non-Latin character sets.

  • We resolved an issue by implementing an admin-controlled policy for MailTips. This policy ensures that users receive notifications when their emails are blocked, restricted, or contain sensitive information.

PowerPoint

  • We fixed an issue where line widths were not preserved when exporting arrow shapes to PDF.

  • Fixed an issue where desktop PowerPoint tries to repair a corrupt password-encrypted file and always stops working.  PowerPoint will now display the error message, "PowerPoint for desktop can't repair this file. Try repairing in PowerPoint for the web."

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where saves to a OneDrive sync location would sometimes fail unexpectedly for users subject to a mandatory sensitivity labeling policy.

  • Fixed an issue where opening a OneDrive sync, client-managed file on paths exceeding 259 characters resulted in save not working if you edit the file. PowerPoint now blocks opening and displays an appropriate error message when this condition is detected.

  • Fixed an issue in PowerPoint where the content marks were not fully removed from the document data when downgrading the sensitivity label.

Word

  • We fixed an issue in which certain customers who installed 3rd party fonts on their machines could see garbled text with WordArt effects applied to paragraph text in Word.

  • We fixed an issue where the language of a presentation was not retained when saving or exporting the presentation to a .PDF file.

  • Resolved an issue where revisions may be skipped when reviewing using VBA.

  • Resolved an issue where Word may quit unexpectedly when the "Next" or "Previous" buttons in the review tab are clicked to navigate through comments.

  • Resolved as issue where the Actions pane was unavailable in Office 2016.

  • Resolved an issue where the prompt given to Copilot is lost if the user encountered an error message. The prompt is now saved after clicking 'Generate'.

  • Resolved an issue where characters could appear corrupted when opening RTF emails.

  • Resolved an issue where the Word process may continue running for users with the GENKO add-in after Word is called using OLE.

  • Resolved an issue where users were unable to launch Word with the DDE function (/x switch).

Office Suite

  • We fixed an issue where users opening a file in viewing mode, could see each other's names if the file has an encryption label with user defined permissions.

  • We fixed an issue where opening a file encrypted by a sensitivity label changed the modified date/time in the OneDrive sync folder within file explorer view.

  • Resolved a performance issue when typing with autocorrect on in PowerPoint.

  • We fixed a problem specific to Rich Text Format emails, where images inserted into the email would become degraded when the email was saved as a draft.

  • Fixed an issue where PowerPoint closed unexpectedly during shutdown of add-ins.

  • We fixed an issue with multiple Dynamic Link Library (DDL) files. These files were signed with an invalid code signing certificate, resulting in an error message: "This CA Root certificate is not trusted because it is not in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store."

  • Resolved an issue where multiple newlines were appearing between paragraphs in multi-line comments while coauthoring.

PowerPoint

  • The Title field in File > Info will no longer be filled in automatically when saving a file.

  • Improved experience in changing the source of a linked chart: In a situation where a presentation contains a linked chart, which is not only stored at a SharePoint location, but also synced to a local folder, when the user tries to change the chart source via "File -> Info -> Edit Links to File -> Change Source...", the initial location in the Change Source dialog now shows the current location of the linked chart, instead of the last used location. PowerPoint can now convert the local sync folder location to its corresponding SharePoint URL and preserve it in the file if the user chooses a chart in a local sync folder as the new chart source.

  • The Edit Photo Album option is now enabled in Slide Sorter view.

Word

  • Resolved an issue in Outlook where background images wouldn't render correctly, requiring the user to scroll or click into the message for the image to appear.

  • Resolved an issue where text inside the track change card was not properly visible when using dark grey theme.

  • Resolved an issue in Word where content controls may be removed when coauthoring.

  • Resolved an issue where attempting to reference a file using Draft with Copilot would give the error "Copilot wasn't able to apply the right sensitivity label to this file because it couldn't work with the content you referenced."

  • Resolved an issue that caused footnote numbers to be missing from the Cross Reference list when track changes is turned on in a document and changes are made.

  • Resolved an issue where the Enter and Backspace keys were not performing their expected functions within a list, preventing users from exiting the list.

The sum of these values may not have been equal to the scalar value (the value you see in a sheet view). As the timescale granularity went from very detailed such as daily to less detailed such as yearly, the differences between the summed and scalar values could be significant.

  • Optimized Excel recalculation on devices with constrained resources: On resource-constrained devices (two cores or less and eight gigabytes of RAM or less), Excel has now by default made recalculation more optimal by running calculation on a single thread. In most cases, users should see noticeably faster calculation on these devices. Note that in some cases that require compute-intensive calculation, users may want to consider overriding this default by setting Number of calculation threads to “2.” For more details, see the Formulas section of the Advanced Options page on the Microsoft Support site.

  • Use suggested replies in Outlook: When you receive an email message that can be answered by a short response, Outlook can suggest three responses you can use to reply with just a couple of clicks. Learn more See details in blog post

  • Turn off Suggested Replies: Outlook makes it easy to reply faster to emails by offering short suggested replies for messages that can be answered with just a few words. Some users may not want to see this option, so it's now possible to turn the feature off.
